Vlogging on Android

I will be revisiting this topic a few times over the next year, but here is the first iteration of this. The Documentation project videos and most if not all my videos will be shot and edited on my phone. This is an experiment in how much video production end to end can be done on android. I do have some projects that will at least require me to record the videos on my computer, as I am wanting to do a screen cast working with PDF auto-fill documents.

In this video I quickly talk about my gear and workflow and I want to go over it here as well.

Phone: The main work horse in this set-up is going to be my LG G3 smartphone. Currently this is a phone without a dataplan but I like its form factor and layout of buttons. I have some others that may be tested later, for multi-camra shot testing, but this is an issue for later.

When in need of stable or further out shots I use an off-brand Monopod from Michael’s that I bought for like $5 (http://amzn.to/2mkDHJ8 – closest match on Amazon) – I have plans to upgrade this in the near future.

I have a Targus TG-50TR that currently I have ziptied the monopod to and can use it as an overhead shot platform. This tripod was also used in the janky antenna build.(http://amzn.to/2m0mNyX) – Plans to get a phone mount head for this when I update the monopod.

Editing videos:
My main application I use is WeVideo(http://bit.ly/2mtIzs3). This application is a simple video editor, and makes quick editing and publishing of the Documentation Vlog quick and easy.
I am testing PowerDirector(http://bit.ly/2leALZe) as I needed to do a sped-up clip of a laptop repair I did, and WeVideo in the mobile client did not do this.

Editing Photos:
I use snapseed(http://bit.ly/2leykWM) to edit photos for video thumbnails, and if I feel a photo needs to be touched up or filtered before I post.

Changing thumbnail:
Youtube creator studio(http://bit.ly/2lKFcPj). This also lets me track analytics and check views.
